COENZYME Q-10 (CoQ-10) is in every plant and animal cell, although dietary sources may not be sufficient to make up a deficiency. It is an essential component of the mitochondria (the powerhouse of all cells). Cells use it to produce ATP energy that your body needs for cell growth and maintenance.
It is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. CoQ-10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in people with certain chronic ailments. Some prescription medicines may also lower CoQ-10 levels. Coenzymes help enzymes to work in order to digest food and perform other body functions, including protecting the heart and skeletal muscles.
