Naïf Mineral Sunscreen Spray SPF50 does not contain ingredients like oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, avobenzone. We prefer to stay away from these ingredients. Instead the sunscreen contains zinc oxide: a natural ingredient that adds a protective layer on top of the skin which reflects sunbeams.
To guarantee the SPF of our sunscreen we added a 'booster' made out of bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine. This is a new generation UV filter that does not penetrate the skin but stays on the surface, which makes it safe to use even on the most sensitive skin. And of course it's not harmful to the planet. Want to know more about our new UV filter, read further under the tab UV filter.
Decyl Oleate, Zinc Oxide, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Triheptanoin, Dextrin Palmitate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Allantoin, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Bisabolol, Pongamol, Palmitic Acid.
UV-filters are usually divided into two categories: mineral and chemical. But we prefer to call them mineral and non-mineral. A mineral UV-filter is derived from a natural ingredient and adds a protective layer on top of the skin, while a non-mineral UV-filter is lab-made and penetrates the skin. Most sunscreen brands use non-mineral filters, but these filters have gotten a bad reputation in recent years. Some of these lab-made UV-filters contain ingredients that turned out to be harmful to the (sensitive) skin or the environment. That’s why we prefer to stay away from the following ingredients:
octinoxate
octocrylene
oxybenzone
avobenzone
homosalate
butyl octyl salicylate
But the good news is that there is also a ‘new generation’ of non-mineral UV filters and based on our current research, there are no demonstrated effects on marine life due to this ingredient.
At Naïf we believe in good care and protection, but not at the expense of our planet. That’s why we add the mineral zinc oxide to all our sunscreen. Zinc oxide adds a protective layer on top of the skin that reflects the sunbeams and protects against UVA and UVB radiation. It does not penetrate the skin and offers immediate protection. But too much zinc oxide can result in dry skin.
To reach the right SPF, zinc oxide is generally associated with a booster. Until now, we used a natural one extracted from pongamia seeds, but now we also added a second booster to our changed formula. Protection guaranteed! The booster is made of a new generation (non-mineral) UV-filter: bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine. This UV-filter does not penetrate the skin, but protects it from the surface. Based on our current research, there are no documented effects on marine life due to this ingredient.
The UV-filter bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is already used in The Netherlands, but the combination with our mineral zinc oxide filter is unique! By combining our zinc oxide UV-filter and the booster we can guarantee an SPF of the highest quality, so you and your family can enjoy the sun safely.
